The Artist and Challenging the Patriarchy

It is abundantly discernible that the feminist ideology is significantly expressed within the works of Untitled film still #15 by Cindy Sherman, Dollhouse by Miriam Schapiro, Untitled (your body is a battleground) and Untitled (your gaze hits the side of my face) by Barbara Kruger, and How Women Get Maximum Exposure in Art Museums by the feminist artist group the Guerrilla Girls. All these work present questions regarding the nature of femininity and stereotypes created by patriarchal societies, challenging the male gaze and the power of the patriarchy in determining set gender roles for women and presenting women as strong and powerful, able to resist the voyeur and patriarchy, thereby becoming independent, fully three-dimensional human beings.
